About the winemaker
Ross, Cooper & Matt founded The Austin Winery in May 2014, establishing the first full production, grape to glass winery inside Austin city limits. Ross & Cooper had worked in cellars, tasting rooms, equipment, & brokerage enough that they felt comfortable making and selling wine. After producing two red blends to wide applause, they convinced Matt Smith to join up and add the business structure to bring The Austin Winery to life. The young team proved their concept with 3 years of busy tasting room traffic & wholesale distribution out of a hyper-industrial warehouse. In May 2017, The Austin Winery moved its operation to the newly built out development, The Yard. They work with organic & biodynamically farmed vineyards in the Texas High Plains, Sonoma, Amador County & Walla Walla
